Conversational Software - Is it Too Easy to Control?

broken image

In early 2021, I wrote an article outlining some of the key pieces considered to be missing from many attempts to develop conversational software. Since that time, I have been doing a bit more applied research into this area and developing tools to fill in some of those holes. One area that has been somewhat overlooked is that of language translation. The issue of translation quality is actually quite serious in the online marketing world. Therefore, it is no real surprise that translation quality has been neglected by many attempts to develop conversational software programs.

A good conversational software developer needs to address the fact that there are certain things that are beyond the ability of a human translator or bot. Conversational bot and conversation designer solutions should include ways for those interested in the project to customize the bot in order to handle certain issues. For example, if someone wants to have their bot translate a particular phrase or sentence, but it doesn't have the ability to handle punctuation, they can go into the settings and enable the "raw" or "traditional" speech quality.

By default, all of these software on the market has a fairly limited vocabulary. In order to build conversational software with "raw" voice qualities, developers need to find ways to add additional vocabulary to their conversations. This can easily be done by adding new modules or keywords to existing ones. There are also the chatbot ai tools that allow users to add in their own vocabulary, though this will not be as robust as having an actual person construct sentences for these bots.

Another important area to discuss in the area of conversational software is the issue of artificial intelligence. It is becoming increasingly clear that chatbots will be coming to the forefront of online marketing strategies. Chatbots, which are essentially automated software programs, can carry out different actions in the way that humans do. This includes things like following the users around the web, following them on social networking sites, and even recommending certain products to them based on their past shopping habits.

While the use of conversational software can make marketing more efficient, the use of such a program could actually pose a security risk to those who use the chatbot in question. Many argue that this type of automated system could be programmed in such a way as to leave some sort of trail. Such software would log conversations or activities and then use these to fool the user into revealing personal information or otherwise. This is one of the main arguments against the use of chat bots in conversational settings. To prevent this type of security risk, it may be necessary for marketers to completely turn off the ability to manually control these machines.

The final area to touch on regarding conversational software and the security issue is the issue of spam. As you probably have figured out by now, most conversational user interfaces are actually web-based. Therefore, any spamming techniques could potentially leave your system wide open to hackers who may be able to bypass the various security measures that are put in place.
